Department of Health

The official website of the State's Health Department. Provides links to helpful health resources, health-related events, and current news. Also provides information on permitting and licensing, as well as different programs offered through the Department.

 

Department of Human Services

The offical website of the State's Human Services Department. Provides links to the state's social safety net programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, First-to-Work, and Child Care Connection Hawaii.

 

Executive Office on Aging

The EOA is the designated lead agency in the coordination of a statewide system of aging and caregiver support servies in Hawaii as authorized by federal and state laws. The site provides information on the Office as well as several links to various aging and caregiving-related programs and services.

 

Aging and Disability Resource Center

The ADRC site is a "one-stop source" for information, assistance, and access to services and care for the elderly, people with disabilities, and family caregivers. There are portals for each county, as well as information on how to apply for assistance and determine eligibility for public programs.

 

Hawaii's Prepaid Health Care Act

Found on the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations website, this page discusses Hawaii's Prepaid Health Care Act. Provides specific information for employers about the responsibilities and requirements of the Act.

 

Med-QUEST Division

The digital home of Hawaii's QUEST programs. The site includes descriptions of programs offered, how to determine eligibility, and provider information. It also has a FAQs for easy reference and contact information.

 

Hawaii Covering Kids

A program to help identify and enroll uninsured children, Hawaii Covering Kids offers a one-stop shop for various forms, including an eligibility form, and forms for Med-QUEST. The site also has a section for news and information regarding health insurance for children, as well as a calendar for current, related events.

 

The Hawaii Uninsured Project

The Hawaii Uninsured Project grew out of the HMSA Foundation's committment in 2000 to study and address the growing number of uninsured in Hawaii. In 2002, federal and national grants allowed the project to continue independently of the HMSA Foundation. The site offers research information on health insurance issues and those without health insurance in the state, as well as links to related sources including a Glossary of Terms.

The virtual home of the federal Department of Health and Human Services, this site includes information about federal social services and how to obtain them. The site also provides resources and funding information for the various grants and benefits for individuals and families, as well as loans and contracting opportunities they supply.

 

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

A federal site that offers resources for health-related information. The site includes information organized by health and safety topics, as well as an extensive array of data and statistics, also organzied by topic. In addition, there are several multi-media tools including a widget that can be added to a blog for up-to-date health news and links to podcasts on health-related topics.

 

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services

Operated under the federal Department of Health and Human Services, this site is a portal for programs and information on Medicare and Medicaid. It features a Highlights box with popular news also accessible via an RSS feed, as well as easy to access "Top 10 Links." It also provides links to research and data, regulations and guidance, and outreach and education.

A federal site that deals specifically with health care reform. The site offers information about the President's proposals as well as specific information on health care in each state.

National Conference of State Legislatures (Health)

National Conference of State Legislatures (Human Services)

NCSL is a bipartisan organization that provides several services, including research and technical assistance for policymakers, to create a forum for the exchange of ideas on state issues. The website has various health and human services-related information organized by issues and including bill summaries, reports, articles, and newsletters.

 

The Urban Institute

A nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that analyzes policies, evaluates programs, and informs community development to improve social, civic, and economic well-being. The site offers research papers on topics organized by issue areas, and has a variety of email newsletters to subscribe to.

 

Primary Care Needs Assessment Databook

Based on input from coummunity stakeholders, this publication of the Family Health Services Division of the state Department of Health is intended to serve as a source of comparative health statistics on 28 primary care service areas.

 

Academic Centers for Excellence on Youth Violence Prevention

Operating under grants from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, each ACE Center is housed at a major university and connects academic and community resources to study and create lasting ways to prevent youth violence. The main site has links to each ACE Center as well as information on the history of the program, core activities, the ACE logic model, and the goals, mission, and vision of the program.

 

Health Reform Toolkit

This pdf report offers links to resources to help readers understand the relationship between the Employee Retirement Income Security Act and state health reform. It is provided by the Alliance for Health Reform.

 

Kaiser State Health Facts

This site is maintained by the Kaiser Family Foundation and is designed to provide free, up-to-date, easy-to-use health data on all fifty states. It provides information on topics such as health care coverage, health costs and budgets, and demographics and the economy.

 

National Academy for State Health Policy

A nonprofit, nonpartisan, non-membership organization, NASHP is an academy of state health policymakers working together to identify emerging issues, develop policy solutions, and improve state health policy and practice. The website provides information on Medicaid, long-term and chronic care, public health issues, and insurance coverage and cost, among other topics. In addition, the site has a resource center providing resources categorized into four different types.

 

The Future of Children

The Future of Children is a collaboration of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University and the Brookings Institution. Its mission is to translate the best social science research about children and youth into information that is useful to polcymakers, practitioners, grant-makers, advocates, the media, and students of public policy. The project publishes two peer-reviewed journals and policy briefs each year which are available on the site. In addition, the site offers a blog and webcasts of many of their outreach presentations.
