Department of Taxation

The official site of the State Department of Taxation. The site includes tax-related news and resources, policy information, and commonly-used forms.

 

Department of Budget and Finance

The official site of the State Department of Budget and Finance, which administers the state budget, develops near- and long-term financial plans and strategies for the State, and provides programs for the improvement of management and financial management of State agencies. The site provides information on the State's budget structure, Executive and Finance memorandums, and the Multi-Year Program and Financial Plan.

Internal Revenue Service

The virtual home of the IRS. The site provides links to tax forms and relevant information organized by user type (e.g. individual, government entities, tax professionals). Also has links to useful tools for taxpayers.

 

Congressional Budget Office

CBO's mandate is to provide Congress with objective, nonpartisan, and timely analyses to aid in economic and budgetary decisions on the wide array of programs covered by the federal budget, as well as the information and estimates required for the Congressional budget process. The site offers publications in pdf format and federal budget information, including a monthly budget review, historical budget data, economic projections, and a glossary of budgetary and economic terms.

 

Recovery.gov

A provision of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 requires that a website be maintained to ensure accountability and transparency in the use of ARRA funds. As such, this site displays user-friendly graphs, charts, and maps, in addition to providing an online means of reporting any suspected fraud, waste, or abuse related to Recovery funding and projects. The site is regularly updated with Recovery-related news and developments, as well as the results of any audits or investigations. Project data is also updated as it comes in.

National Conference of State Legislatures

NCSL is a bipartisan organization that provides several services, including research and technical assistance, for policymakers, to create a forum for the exchange of ideas on state issues. The website provides various economic information organized by issues and including bill summaries, reports, articles, and newsletters. In addition, there are several news articles and updates regarding issues of immediate economic importance.

 

National Association of State Budget Officers

The official site of NASBO, which serves as a professional membership organization for state finance officers and is an affiliate of the National Governors' Association. Its major functions include research, policy development, education, training, and technical assistance. The site provides links to pdf versions of its biannual report, "The Fiscal Survey of States," which provides narrative analysis of trends and significant developments on the fiscal condition of the states, along with self-reported aggregate and individual data on states' general fund receipts, expenditures, and balances. There are also links to NASBO's annual "State Expenditure Report," which examines spending in the functional areas of state budgets, including elementary and secondary education, higher education, public assistance, Medicaid, corrections, and transportation. This report also includes data on the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) and on revenue sources in state general funds. In addition, the site has several other pdf publications available, to include other reports and informational briefs on a variety of topics.

 

U.S. Census Bureau

A U.S. Census Bureau site that provides information on state and local government finances. Data provided are from 2007 and prior, and include revenue and expenditure information in a table format. In addition, the site provides links to historical data, survey methodology, and Government Finance and Employment Classification Manuals.
