TOPICS OF INTEREST
- Lake Wilson
Having grown up in Wahiawa, Representative Oshiro recognizes the tremendous importance of Lake Wilson to the community. It is not only a valuable asset for agricultural irrigation but also a potential recreational area. However, the poor condition of the Wahiawa dam that creates Lake Wilson represents a potentially serious hazard for life and property in neighboring areas. To address this issue, House Bill No. 2132, H.D. 2, would have appropriated funds to acquire the real property surrounding Lake Wilson to ensure that the Wahiawa dam is properly maintained, thereby protecting the neighboring communities. However, this measure failed to gain Senate approval.
- Hawaii Ingenuity Corporation
Representative Oshiro, a strong supporter of entrepreneurism, has found that many inventors and innovators lack the resources to protect their intellectual property rights. House Bill No. 3261, C.D. 1, will protect and support Hawaii's entrepreneurial community by establishing the Hawaii Ingenuity Corporation, which will be responsible for holding and using intellectual and other property, as well as promoting and assisting innovation and invention in Hawaii.
- Honolulu Symphony - State Endowment Fund
As a thespian, Representative Oshiro is very supportive of the arts in Hawaii. Unfortunately, many cultural and artistic organizations do not receive adequate financial support. House Bill. No. 3235, C.D. 1, will appropriate funds to the State of Hawaii Endowment Fund, from which the capital gains and interest earned are to be used to support the Honolulu Symphony.
