Dear Friends,

Welcome to a new endeavor on the part of the Majority Caucus of the State Legislature – the Majority Caucus website.

Having grown up in sugar plantation housing in Waialua, I have a strong affinity for this side of the island. Today, I am proud to be able to represent the people of the 46th District. Thank you for allowing me to serve you.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with your concerns and ideas on ways to improve our community. I am here to listen.

Aloha,
Michael Y. Magaoay
State Representative
46th District

TOPICS OF INTEREST

  • North Shore Irrigation Systems
Representative Magaoay represents the North Shore area of Oahu, which is home to vast acres of agricultural land. House Bill No. 2842, H.D. 1, would have provided a stable source of water for agricultural operations on the North Shore by authorizing the issuance of special purpose revenue bonds to assist Kamehameha Schools with agriculture infrastructure improvements and improvement of the Wahiawa reservoir system irrigation facilities. However, this measure failed to gain Senate approval.

  • Emergency Medical Services Aeromedical Helicopter
Representative Magaoay understands that one of the major concerns for residents of rural areas is access to medical services, especially during an emergency. House Bill No. 2187, H.D. 2, would have appropriated funds to ensure that rural areas of Oahu, including the North Shore, are provided rapid-response emergency medical transport services. However, this measure failed to gain legislative approval.

  • Kaiaka Bay Watershed
Living on the North Shore, Representative Magaoay is committed to keeping Hawaii pristine and to protecting our natural resources. House Bill No. 2573 would have appropriated funds to conduct a pilot project for the Kaiaka Bay, Oahu watershed and action plan, as a potential model for statewide use. The pilot project would have strengthened watershed management efforts throughout the state. However, this measure failed to gain legislative approval.

  • Kaena Point Natural Area Reserve
Off-road vehicle activities have seriously damaged the ecosystem at Kaena Point. In response, the Department of Land and Natural Resources has closed off certain areas of Kaena Point from motor vehicle access. House Bill No. 2133 will help to preserve the coastal dune ecosystem within the Kaena Point Natural Area Reserve by statutorily prohibiting the use of motor vehicles within the area.
