Smart Growth Task Force
- December, 2007. The House convened an interim task force to develop legislation for smart growth, land use, and development pursuant to House Resolution 259, passed during the 2007 Regular Session. The Task Force, led by Representative Sharon Har, has been meeting over the interim to discuss current development projects that have already incorporated smart growth principles, as well as discussion on smart growth principles that may be included in future community development plans.
The task force has included stakeholders encompassing various groups such as developers, educators, planners, utility companies, and cultural groups, and includes representation from each county.

House Democrats Travel to Kauai
- August 15-16, 2007. Members of the House Committees on Health, and Human Services and Housing, visited Wilcox Hospital, Mahelona Hospital, and the Kauai Housing Agency to receive their input on how the Legislature could most effectively assist their operations.
At the same time, members of the House Economic Opportunities Bracket Joint Committee traveled toother areas of Kauai to learn more about the issues facing the visitor and agricultural industries there, as well as coqui frog eradication efforts.

Adjournment Sine Die!
- May 3, 2007. With a dash of humor and a sprinkle of bittersweet tears, the 2007 Legislative Session came to a close today. The celebratory mood in the Chamber reflected a sense of excitement and satisfaction with the major initiatives passed during this session.

2007 Hawaii Medal of Honor
- April 16, 2007. The Legislature held a Special Joint Session on the Senate Floor to honor the courageous men and women in uniform who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our state and our country. A hushed silence descended upon loved ones, guests, legislators, and members of the audience as one by one, the name of each fallen soldier, followed by a solitary ring from the memorial bell, echoed within the hallowed walls of the Chamber.

2007 Legislative Session: Halfway to the Finish Line
- March 8, 2007. House Democrats reached the first major milestone of the 2007 Legislative Session this past week. Hundreds of House bills have passed the House and are now being considered by the Senate. The House is similarly considering Senate bills that have crossed over from the Senate.

Filipino Caucus
- February 28, 2007. In its inaugural year, the Filipino Caucus of the House of Representatives stands ready to serve as a voice for Filipino communities throughout Hawaii. Chaired by Representative Magaoay, the Filipino Caucus held its first meeting wtih community leaders on February 28, 2007.
