TOPICS OF INTEREST

  • Historic Preservation - Violations
Representative Evans feels that Hawaii's unique and diverse cultural legacy should be honored and preserved for future generations. To accomplish this goal, she has introduced House Bill No. 2857, H.D. 1, which makes a knowing violation of an approved mitigation plan that includes monitoring and preservation plans a civil and administrative violation.

  • Agricultural Land - Agricultural Use
Representative Evans believes that agricultural lands should be used for agricultural purposes. To help protect our agricultural lands, she has introduced House Bill No. 1938, H.D. 2, which would have prohibited counties from permitting any use on agricultural lands except for those that are permitted statutorily. In addition, this measure would have expanded the list of prohibited uses on agricultural land to include facilities such as hotels, time-shares, and private membership facilities. However, this bill failed to gain Senate approval.

  • Vocational Agriculture
Hawaii's agricultural industry provides a wide array of benefits for our residents and visitors, including fresh food products, reduced reliance on imported goods, and preservation of our "green" space. To ensure that our farms and ranches have access to a trained and skilled workforce, Representative Evans has introduced House Bill No 1843, H.D. 1, which establishes a vocational agriculture education program in the Department of Education. Although this measure failed to gain legislative approval, House Bill No. 2179, C.D. 1, which has been passed by the Legislature, incorporates provisions that similarly establish a vocational agriculture education program in the DOE.
